DIY iPhone charger (The MintyBoost works with the iPhone)…

I have been doing some testing with the iPhone and the super efficient MintyBoost we have @ MAKE. The first revision of the iPhone firmware didn’t seem to like any 3rd party chargers, but since the latest updates everything seems to be working. I’m still doing testing but it looks like you might be able to get 2x the video, audio and web use with the MintyBoost, but I need to do more testing and be in one place for that long to confirm… – [via] Link.

And you’re running 1.02? I just put together my MintyBoost and it charges everything I throw at it *except* my iPhone :(

It even charges my Moto bluetooth headset, which is picky about what other types of chargers it will charge with (it won’t, for instance, charge off my Griffin kit.)

I have been having the same problem. My fiance and I both have iPhones and we both just spent the afternoon building 2 MintyBoosts (one for each of us). My iPhone is updated to v1.0.2 and her iPhone is still at v1.0 and neither will work with the MintyBoosts we built. And yes, our MintyBoosts do work with our other iPods (we tested both boosts on 2 different 80gig video iPods and 1 Shuffle – all of which charge perfectly). We blogged about our MintyBoosts here. If anyone has any suggestions please let us know by commenting to our blog. Thanks!

when you plug the iphone in to the mintyboost do you get a battery charging icon / indicator?

  4. Tyler208 says:

No fullscreen charging icon and no mini charging icon in the upper right corner. I’ve had the iPhone plugged in for several hours now and it actually dropped from a little over half charged to a little less than half charged while plugged into the MintyBoost. I don’t think the charger is actually draining the iPhone, it probably lost it’s normal amount of charge over the few hours that it has been plugged in.

odd, can you turn the iphone off completely, then try again? (hold the power button and the home button) – and you’re also certain you have the latest firmware too right? 1.0.2?

I actually have 2 phones. My phone has firmware v1.0.2 and my fiance’s has v1.0 firmware. I got excited when I read your post because I’ve had problems before that I was able to fixe by rebooting my iPhone, but I hadn’t thought to do it this time. I powered off and on both phones – didn’t fix it. I rebooted both phones (by holding down the power and home buttons) and that didn’t fix it either. :(

Tyler208 – press the top button (screen off) and then plug the mintyboost in, let me know what happens after that.

Ditto here. Ordered it after seeing it was compatible with the iPhone, built it yesterday, works great with iPod and everything else, no iPhone love though =

1.0.2, fresh batteries, and tried screen off plug in as requested above and didn’t work.

bizarre – ok, email me directly and we’ll start to figure this out (i have an iphone, it charges mine, but two reports of it not working is odd)…

to charge the iphone and the iphone 3g,you need to supply it with reference voltages. i have instructions on how to build it on my blog: http://www.tzywen.com/modules.php?name=News&file=article&sid=683
