Last Friday was the premier of our new live talk radio show, Make: Talk. It was really a lot of fun and we’re looking forward to doing it again this Friday. In case you missed it, you can listen to the archived show below.

We also want to follow up each episode with Show Notes, links and information related to what came up in conversation. Here (belatedly) are the notes to last week’s show. From now on, we’ll have these up soon after the webcast.

Make: Talk Show Notes, Episode #001, March 6, 2009

Make: Talk, Friday, March 13th, 12:00pm PT, 3:00pm ET

This Friday, we’ll continue our exploration of Make, Vol. 17, the “Lost Knowledge” issue. We’ll chat with Heather McDougal, author of “Your Own Wunderkammer,” a how-to on building Cabinets of Wonders. She’ll explain how you can make a mini-museum of the awesome and the bizarre in your own home. For more on the subject, visit Heather’s blog: Cabinet of Wonders. Also, the hosts of Make: Talk will present their favorite tricks, tips, and tools for makers, and we’ll be giving away prizes!

And don’t forget, this is live, call-in radio. The show runs for 45 minutes. Call in during showtimes (12-12:45pm PT) and ask questions. The number is: (646) 915-8698. Dale, Mark, and I hope you’ll join us this Friday!

I really like the format, looking forward to more episodes.

It’s really fun to do… and easy. I marveled at how push-button it all is. There’s even a robot lady who comes on the line when you’re on-hold that counts down the minutes, and final seconds, to showtime. And you get instant metrics on how many people online/listeners, how many downloads. And you can have different soundfiles you can upload and punch up during the show (like carts in a radio studio), a switchboard for the callers. It’s free, global, push-button radio. When I wrote my book Jamming the Media in 1997, I could only have imagined that a little over a decade later it’d be this fast, far, easy and free.

The first ep was a little rough around the edges, but I still think it turned out pretty well and I’m really excited by this opportunity to carry on conversations between MAKE staff, contributors, and readers.

wow that does sound pretty future-tastic. I’m anticipating some nutty blooper sounds next time. Soon enough – Make: Talk wacky morning show with Mad Mark and the Gar-Dog!

We want YOU to do the jingle. The one you did for the Maker Shed vids is genius. I never tired of hearing it and seeing the animation. It’s got near-Final Jeopardy inexhaustibility!

When I did virtual press tours (being on a series of radio shows over the phone) for a couple of my books years ago, I did the rounds of the morning drive-time shows. Gawd, was that ugly. Especially for me, ’cause I am NOT a morning person! The last thing I wanna deal with is an endless string of Twitchie and the Bean or Rascal Randy and Downer Dan, or whatever. And they all really do have names that stupid. And they sound like they’ve had tanker trucks worth of caffeine before making it to the mic. And yeah, the sound effects. They really did have the sound effects.
