This stuff is amazing and has saved my bacon a number of times. I've used it for fixing all manner of things--from its intended purpose of holding a muffler together until I reached the next town, to administering first aid to a dog that was bitten by a brown snake as a compression bandage. Here in Oz, four large rolls of the 5cm thick stuff costs $10 and I wouldn't dream of going out anywhere without it now.

Just about any hardware store or automotive parts outlet.

this is great, an all time favorite has to be duct tape...fixes almost anything. What a useful, yet underrated invention.

Muffler tape

Back in the 1980's, I managed to get through state vehicle inspection by wrapping a worn out muffler with some strange sort of muffler tape. The stuff was designed to bond upon heat and became as stiff as steel, but it only lasted for a few months when it began to dry out and flake. I wonder if that stuff is still made?

This stuff is amazing. It is the stuff you use for really odd shapes where you wish you could use heat shrink tubing.

non-adhesive, self adhering, electrically insulating and incredibly strong.

It isn't cheap. But it is really useful.

This would have come in really handy on a road trip I was party to in Wyoming... We hit a rock in the Volvo on a dirt 4x4 road looking for a spring (rumored to have the best-tasting water this side of the mississippi)... Wound up Macgyvering something together with duck tape and a foam sleeping pad. It lasted to the next town, but just barely.
