Periphery Art Show with Yellena James at GRSF

Yellena James at GRSF

June 21, 2008 – July 16, 2008
Reception: Saturday, June 21, 6:30 pm – 10:00 pm

Giant Robot is proud to present Periphery, a solo show by Yellena James.

James grew up and attended art school in war-torn Sarajevo, moved to the U.S. when she was 18, and continued to pursue her study of art and design. In her artwork, she combines complex abstract forms to form larger images that take on lives of their own. Her colorful arrangements of organic shapes and tangled lines are at once floral and alien, organic and sci-fi, crafty and fantastic. The Oregon-based artist doesn’t pinpoint specific inspiration, but believes that her work reflects “places, things, dreams and a desire to define beauty and spark imagination.”

For the show, James is creating roughly 30 drawings and paintings of various sizes using inks, pens, markers, and acrylics. The theme of her new work is the attempt to capture beauty and meaning that exists just outside of one’s range of sight.

A reception for James will be held from 6:30 – 10:00 on Saturday, June 21.
