Artist bakes edible bread 'body parts'

Ok, this one goes perfectly with all the weird Halloween cakes and edible scary stuff... Body parts made from bread - "Along with edible human heads crafted from dough, chocolate, raisins and cashews, Kittiwat makes human arms, feet, and chicken and pig parts. He uses anatomy books and his vivid memories of visiting a forensics museum to create the human parts. "When people see the bread, they don't want to eat it. But when they taste it, it's just normal bread," he said. "The lesson is 'don't judge just by outer appearances." [via] - Link & older article.

HOW TO - Make A Cylon Jack-O-Lantern

Windell writes in with this incredible Battlestar Galactica Cyclon (robot kind, not meat kind): "For Halloween this year, we made Cylon Jack-o-lanterns in both large and small versions. The design consists of two parts, a pumpkin-carving part and an electronics part. The big idea, of course, is to make the Cylon's red eye scan back and forth. " [via] - Link.
This was entered in the MAKE & CRAFT Halloween contest too!

Dick Smith's Do-It-Yourself Monster Makeup

I've been looking for some really good books and resources for DIY Halloween monster makeup and all the signs seem to be pointing towards Dick Smith's Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-Up Handbook - "Originally printed in 1965 and offered through Famous Monsters of Filmland Magazine, The Dick Smith Do-It-Yourself Monster Make-Up Handbook remains one of the best resources for beginning make-up artists. Using easy-to-find materials and less complicated techniques, Smith gives step-by-step instructions on how to create 14 unique and popular monsters. The Fifth Printing offers an introduction by Rick Baker and updated techniques." - Aboyd has it for $13.20 & Google search.

Pumpkin porch light

Kevin writes - "I was wandering through my local craft store and came across a bin of foam rubber craft pumpkins reduced to half price. Solar Powered Jack-O-Lantern

Pcapelo has a pretty simple and easy way to make solar powered jack-o-laterns, he writes - "Lately I have had much interest in working with solar cells, because of this I initiated a project, and to be able to test it, I decided to create this lantern with a pumpkin. Solar energy always fascinated me and what we have here is a step by step on how to construct one jack-o-lantern using rechargables batteries and one solar cell. ..I wanted to have a "lantern" in my garden but I didin't want to have that to install any eletric wire in the garden. In the next steps you will be able to see the result of this idea." Thanks Tom! - Link.

101 Halloween Ideas

101 Halloween ideas has a few good tips, project ideas and things to do near or around Halloween...If you're planning something, this quick read might give you a few more ideas to do on the cheap...
Idea #13
Use apples for taper candle holders. Choose small, round apples that will sit stable on a flat surface and remove the stems. Cut a small round hole in the top of each apple - deep and wide enough to securely hold a taper candle. Make sure the apples are shaped so that they have a flatish botton, so they won't tip over.

HOW TO - Blinking eye project

We've posted a lot of 555 timer chip projects for blinking LEDs, but I really like this one, it's like a LED player piano...Ten Men writes - "I scribbled the can with a rubber dremel wheel to remove the paint where I wanted the contacts to close the circuit, lighting the LED's. The contacts are connected to the terminal block, and the LAN cables are connected to the other side. I jumpered the negative connection to every other block, with the positives coming in the gaps." HOW TO - Make a flaming carrot costume

Here's a pretty funny DIY costume from the surreal comic The Flaming Carrot, RoG at i-Mockery writes... "The Flaming Carrot is probably my favorite comic book character ever (though "The Tick" definitely ranks right up there too). He's just got a wonderful way with words and the comic books are just bizarre enough for me to be interested in them. Well that and they've also had some nice crossover issues with the Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles in which Raphael loses his memory and becomes the "Dark Avenger" - a hero with a cape that says "bread" on it, a sack for a mask, and plungers for weapons. As if that's not enough, they've had Christopher Walken, Luciano Pavarotti, and Fabio... all in the same comic. If that doesn't make you want to rush out and buy every Flaming Carrot comic in existence, nothing will.
But what about those of us who need more than the comic books? Well, by following my handy-dandy guide, you'll soon be able to become the Flaming Carrot" [via] - Link.

Forbidden Crypts of Haunted Music

I think this is the biggest collection of Halloween music on the web, each album is recorded from the vinyl record and album art scanned in - Dave writes - "Welcome to the Forbidden Crypts Of Haunted Music! I am making each album into a listening sound page! I hope you enjoy listening to them as much as I did recording them! For those of you who think the sound files have too many pops and clicks, GOOD - That's the way I meant them to sound. Just like you are listening to the albums yourself!" - Link.
