    Edmund Scientific used to sell “Light Show” kits like this years and years ago — usually just a bright light chip — remember when lasers were expensive? — and a mirror chip on the diaphragm, but a lot of fun (and the precursor to some of the large vector graphic laser displays)

    Edmund Scientific did indeed have a kit such as this; they called it the “MusicVision” and it incorporated a flexible rubber sheet and front surface mirrors. The sheet was stretched and glued to the rim of a loudspeaker, the mirrors were glued on directly to the sheet or suspended from a thread to get more “dance” out of it; and the whole thing was hit with the light of a projector. Built one when I was 14 and it was hilariously lo-tech. But it was coooool…
