Thoughts on Open Source Hardware at the Austin Maker Faire
Attila and Anna on the open source hardware talk @ Maker Faire... -
For open source hardware you need open source software and a modular hardware design that makes building customized hardware just as easy as writing software or web apps. In order to make the idea mainstream you need to commercialize it and that’s what exactly Bug Labs is planning to do. One interesting session at the Austin Maker Faire was the chat on Open Source Hardware with Limor Fried and Phil TorroneThoughts on Open Source Hardware at the Austin Maker Faire - Link & more.

Why is it that I now have an unhealthy urge to PRESS THE YELLOW BUTTON. I don't know why I want to do it, but I want to do it none the less.
But seriously, this topic was my favorite talk at Maker Faire Bay Area 2007, and I'm glad I caught part of it for MF Austin. I'm a huge supporter of OS Hardware, and I'll be buying a whole bunch of kits from Adafruit Industries really soon, like the Digg Button, POV, TV-B-Gone, and Mintyboost. Maybe some day I'll get something that will allow me to make the boards myself, but for now, I'm happy to support vendors of OS Hardware the old fashioned way; with my monies.
