    I think it helps to start with a larger ‘pen’ or sticks with the width of a pen. This way, the object will have more points for gripping. This can be narrowed to a smaller object along the way while learning it.

    The other way around, when you can flip a pen like that, you can flip a sword with little more practice. It is the speed, timing and precision that matters. Only practice will get you there.

    But anyhow it is fun to let your hands do something instead of leaving them idle.
