This week, download the companion PDF to the Make: Video Podcast which includes the article written by Martin John Brown as seen in Make: Volume 10. PDF Link

I found it difficult to get amphipods in New York City until I went to Turtle Pond in central park and found a murky muddy place and scooped up some water and milfoil. There were lots of small little worms and teeny tiny leechy looking things that were too small for me to photograph, but interesting to observe. I’m hoping that some of the little critters in there are amphipods and will be able to do their part to keep the biosphere balanced.

When you take a break from staring at your biosphere, it’s cool to check out some of the other large scale biospheres that have existed!

i think there’s a typo in that link to flickr. might be an extra period at the end of the link URL?

    Guten tag…
Great topic! Long have I desired to make a BioSphere of sorts. The only issue is my computer (and my neighbors computer) are not opening the pdf file. It locks up the screen every time. The most I’ve gotten was near to page 2, then it froze. You think it might be something in my computer, or the pdf? Thanks for any help.

I just downloaded it and it opened up fine! I’ll email it to you and see if that helps!

This is an awesome idea! I want to make one but the PDF I downloaded was also only 2 pages. Are you still checking the comments? Could you email the PDF to me at nicoteena [at]yahoo[dot]com? Thanks!

Loved this article, and will try to build my own soon. I had a biosphere as a teen that was purchased at a sharper image type store, and it lived for more then 10 years. I would hope that it continues to live today, however it was stolen from my mother’s elementary school classroom 2 years ago. It traveled with me to and from college, and I loved getting lost in it’s tiny little world. Thank you.
