Can someone explain to me why the sparks cause light that’s bright enough to be visible yet fail to cast a shadow? I can see the primary shadow from the camera’s flash which is much brighter for much longer than the Tesla Coil’s sparks, but I’s still expect to see at least a secondary shadow from the sparks.

    It’s called a Faraday cage.

The shadows you see are from a light source on the right of the camera. If they were from the flash, they would be longer and aligned with the line of sight.

    The flash did not fire.

You don’t see the shadow caused by the spark because the sparks’ light is not from a single point, it’s a long line, causing the shadow to be more diffuse, plus, this picture is likely to be a long exposure of at least several seconds, and the scary giant bright spark on the picture is just the superposition of much smaller sparks on top of each other. Simple words: It’s all burned in the picture captures.

Plus those sparks took different path every time, further limiting the chance of tracing a sharp shadow.

Seeing the brightness of the light source and its position (right and behind of the camera) I’d guess this is a contractor style 500-1000 watt halogen lamp.

Anyone can confirm tesla coils are good sources of X-Rays?

Anyone can confirm X-Rays not good for one’s health?

This is my stuff. 500W is dead right. Exposure was 0.5 seconds if I recall. I needed a lot of light for the video I was shooting which was the main object of the exercise but I took a few stills as well (or rather my son did).
No x-rays from Tesla coils unless you have a vacuum involved. Lightning is another matter however, only recently discovered and due to relativistic electrons triggered by cosmic ray showers. Interesting stuff but does not apply on this scale.
Shadows are fuzzy. Simply a spark is not a point source if it traces a wandering path over 3 feet.

Looks a lot like a Dr. Megavolt clone…
