This is a neat, it’s like a Roomba and a metal detector had a kid…
A REMOTE controlled metal detector built by a Wiltshire man could revolutionise the art of treasure hunting. Resembling something from the TV show Robot Wars, the invention, devised by John Corney, of Corsley Heath, can climb over footballs and has an on-board camera to show its controller where it is going. Mr Corney, 50, who is qualified in remotely operated underwater vehicle (ROV) control, has found hundreds of old coins and medieval artifacts with his invention.

That is freaking cool.
You know what would be neat? If he made it completely autonomous and have GPS to comb the area and log “points of interest” when it picks up something on the metal detector. Somebody can just go up to the way points w/ a handheld GPS.
*eyes darting around*
uhmm…patent pending! =P
Climbing over footballs seems random, yet important.
It’s a cool idea but I also think it should be autonomous but maybe it could just mark the ground with paint or a small flag.
Also there is no way that it could climb over a football!
It might climb over a football sized mound maybe.
Seems like a more realistic and useful application would be hunting out unexploded mines, but whatever. Treasure hunter sounds cooler.
