"Do-it-Yourself" ads for online video - MAKE

Some of you have noticed something very cool and very new in our MAKE videos recently - at the end of some of our videos there is a BUY button for our kits we sell in our Maker store in the video along with some additional information. This is a "DIY ad", a new feature from our video provider blip.tv - we made this ourselves. MAKE worked with blip.tv to develop an ad system so any Maker / video producer can create their own ads for their own goods/services and place them in the videos they produce. It's extremely new, a very simple idea really - but we think it's going to really take off.

For MAKE we can bring you the best how-to videos, encourage sharing of the videos and -inside- the video deliver up our own stuff from our own store, events, etc. They're clickable and easy for us to do, so we can spend more time making things.

Imagine having your eBay store, ETSY store, instructables project with how-to video you made and being able to finally put something relevant in or the actual thing you're selling.

A lot of Makers ask us what tools we use for the projects in the videos, or what books / volumes of MAKE to learn more, now we can show them and soon, everyone else can too. If you look around at the MAKE/CRAFT communities a lot folks are small businesses, MAKE recently opened some office space with ETSY in Brooklyn, NY - there are *that* many people buying and selling handmade goods that a company like ETSY was created.

So when you see a video here, you might see a countdown to Maker Faire, electronics kits from our makers or from our store, books about topics in the video or tools used for the projects. And that's just our stuff, we expect to see bands selling their shirts/cds/tickets to makers selling their unique electronics projects to crafters selling their "soft"- wear.
