  • This is awesome, thanks. Let the hacking begin...

  • If I break the screwdriver tool, can I order a replacement or do I have to order a whole new tool? Is it easy to get the case open so I can replace tools with ones I machine myself?

    In other words...
    - Does it include a meaningful and specific parts?
    - Is the case easy to open?
    - Are components, not entire sub-assemblies replaceable?

  • christopherslatt - meaningful parts, depends what you mean - does a hammer come with meaningful and specific parts?

is the case easy to open? depends on what tools you have, it's just rivets. the tool has a 25 year warranty and it's *tough*

are components, not entire sub-assemblies replaceable? i can mill a new anything, heck i can forge a new knife for it i suppose.

  • Just trying to keep you guys honest - if you're going to push this Maker's Manifesto / Maker's Bill of Rights you've gotta start at home. :)

  • yah, we're the only magazine that i know of that is investing a lot in open source hardware, we try and do everything we can to live up to goals like the maker manifesto - we can't get there without everyone's help.

you can give up and never try to do anything because things are not 100% perfect or open, or you can work hard to encourage change.

  • something is wrong in the world when I can order a tool in the states, have it shipped across the Atlantic, and still end up paying less than I would in a shop here.

not that I am complaining about the squirt mind you, I can't wait to get a warranty voider on my keychain.
