Crewel Embroidery

Crewel Embroidery

This book, “The New Crewel” by Katherine Shaughnessy was at Shannon Okey’s booth at Bazaar Bizarre at the Maker Faire but was sold out by the time I got to the booth on Sunday afternoon. I ended up buying one of her kits and just bought the book recently on Amazon. I couldn’t put the book down and read it from cover to cover the moment I opened it out of the box. Not only are the patterns modern, colorful, and fresh, I loved reading about the history of crewel embroidery and how Katherine herself got started. There are lots of tips and ideas on cool projects you can make with your finished embroidered piece. Link.

If you are in the NY area, Katherine will be teaching a crewel embroidery workshop at the make workshop on Thursday, 5/24 at 6:30pm to 8:30 (195 Chrystie Street #502, NYC 212-533-9955). Link.

Yeast and sugar combined? That sure smells bad. Not something you can put in your living room.

That is Taiwanese, not China actually, designed from an elementary school with the help of a school teacher. Made more obvious that its not Chinese with the fact that the text is in Chinese Traditional (used in Taiwan), not Chinese Simplified (used in China).

Well you are partially right on the traditional chinese for being from Taiwan. However… Hong kong Still uses Traditional chinese writing as well. Soooo it could be from HK. And since it has some english, Hong Kong people learn both chinese and english too so that might point to HK as well.
