    I suppose younger people would think of this stuff as the original “Scotch tape” but actually the matte non-yellowing version is just an improvement on the Scotch Tape that I grew up with, which was made of cellophane (made out of cellulose) and was invented in 1930. The tape product in this announcement was introduced in the early 70’s, I believe. It was first marketed to libraries, not to the public, because it could be used to repair books without discoloring, damaging the underlying paper, or drying out and popping off. The newfangled non-reflective product deservedly eventually completely replaced the old product, but both were called Scotch Tape.
