Instructables is hip

Village voice on Instructables - "By making it easier to DIY, sites like Instructables are lowering the transaction costs of opting out of commercial culture and weakening the value proposition in yet another trip to Target. And really, who likes turnips anyway? Here, have a Throwie." - Thanks Ladyada! Link.

The throwies look cool, but they're one of my least favorite projects on instructables. Making anything just to throw it away and have someone else deal with it bugs me on a few different levels.

I agree. The socio-artistic implications are kind of cool, but when it comes right down to it, throwies are litter. Pretty litter, but litter just the same. Eventually, the batteries will die and they'll simply become lumps of non-biodegradible trash.
