Three robotic vehicles finish million Mojave Desert race…

Mn Robot Race 2
Go Stanley! Three driverless robotic vehicles led by Stanford University on Saturday crossed the finish line of a $2 million Pentagon-sponsored robot race across the rugged Mojave Desert. The race announcer did not immediately declare a winner because 22 out of the 23 robots left the starting line at staggered times at dawn, racing against the clock rather than each other Link.

red bull was a sponsor of the winning team – so it’s a pentagon sponsored robot race in the desert sponsored by a taurine based energy drink maker. it sounds like a wonderful plot for a sci-fi movie to me.

Stanley is the winner. Congratulations to Stanford. But Go Bruins!

While I have a fear/hate kind of thing for the Touareg (but love the other VWs), I find it funny it schooled a Hummer. Diesel no less… bio by chance?

  4. jwenting says:

The race wasn’t about testing the vehicle’s offroad abilities so the Hummer didn’t have an advantage.
Touareg is faster and lighter, making it probably more controllable.

The real test was for the robotics, not the vehicles they were installed in.
