See Rocketboom on MAKE's virtual land...
Our favorite DIY news show, Rocketboom is now playing on MAKE's virtual land in Second Life. Andrew from Rocketboom set up a video feed so each day the video will change. We also have laser beam movies, Skype payphone video, MAKE on G4 TV and other videos to collaboratively view with other residents - enjoy. Image here and land link.

Second Life looks like real fun, it will be interesting to see if it will fly. I've tried a few similar solutions, but none of them stuck, I fiddled a little, drifted around alittle, read up and talked a little about the technical aspekts, chattet about Willam Gison/Neal Stephenson, the economical aspekts and did a blabla session about the coolness of selling virtual objects, but after that I usually never log on again, maybe once or twice after a few months just to give it another go, and then uninstalling.
I wish I knew what it is about virtual worlds that just doesn't work (for me). Perhaps second life is better, if you can easily build things, but then again it seems like you have to kiss ass to get land, or buy, which means I have to invest alot before even trying it out in a way that will let me know if it is worth the investment in time and money. In other words a chicken or the egg situation, even before I download and test. Not promising.
I belive a virtual world must be as open as the web itself, giving the users unlimited freedom to create and build and interconnect. Every topdriven model will fail (because if I can't be god, then no one should, muahahaha).
I republihed this on my blog if anyone wants to comment, would love to get some feedback from People who have tried and love Second Life:
