HOW TO make a Beer Can Padlock Shim

19 Here’s an interesting HOW TO on making a padlock shim to open up padlocks – it’s based on a retail version, but made from a beer can. I have a couple old locks that I don’t seem to have the combination for any longer, handy! Link.

To be honest, what is the point? Those are _so_ easy to pick, the bad kid showed me back in the 6th grade (1973 or so), and I have no problem remembering how to pick one when I need to (every 5 or 10 years). You just (as I recal without having one in front of me) go through the process of opening it while putting a little force (pulling open) on the hasp, that produces drag on the wheels, they have a notch where the open spot is, and you can feel it. Try it, you’ll figure it out.

Actually, that’s no longer possible, at least with some locks. In particular, any Masterlock combination lock made in the last 10? years will stop about 20 times when you try that trick. It is possible to work out a list of about 100 combos from this data, but a tool would be much faster and easier.
