Dave Matthews DRM workaround HOW TO

Ss Standup Small-1
Dave Matthews Band encouraging fans to bypass DRM restrictions on new album (and, funny enough, petitioning Apple to ignore DRM restrictions in iTunes). Their HOW TO suggests burning a CD, then importing it in to iTunes, that’s wrong. Just hold down the shift key and/or disable autorun (here’s how). [via] Link.

Please, dont give his false sense of “i hate drm” any publicity. He wants his fans to petition Apple to include WMA DRM, instead of not having it at all. He wants more.

  2. philliptorrone says:

i think it’s pretty sad, that’s why i posted how to really get rid of the drm alltogether.

  3. Moofie says:

Wow, that’s really pretty despicable. Non-DRMed CDs work just great with iTunes. Most CDs work just great with iTunes on MacOS. Seems like Apple is doing just fine, and Dave backed the wrong horse.

    What a chump.

  4. philliptorrone says:

the company that makes the drm tried to sue a student for publishing the “hold the shift key” hack too.

If this wasn’t so sad it would be funny. An Artist explaining to his customers how to bypass the DRM on their CDs by copying the embedded WMAs to their PC, downloading a license which then allows them to burn an audio CD copy of the original (modulo two lossy compression steps) so that they can then rip the CD to unencrypted MP3s to finally copy them to an iPod. And noting that the CD copy protection doesn’t work on Macs so that a Mac can rip the original CD directly. And finally topping it off with a request to petition Apple to support WMA.

I mean, WTF? in the immortal words of John McEnroe, “You cannot be serious?”
